Winners and finalists of the olympiad and essay contest
The Department of Intercultural Communication at SPBGASU summed up a series of intra-university and all-Russian events dedicated to the study of foreign languages. In the spring of 2026, students of our university demonstrated a high level of English proficiency, a creative approach to solving relevant professional problems, and represented the university with dignity.
Intrauniversity Olympiad “New Language Horizons”
On May 28, a solemn awarding of winners and prize-winners took place at the Department of Intercultural CommunicationIII Intra-University Olympiad in English “New Language Horizons”.The Olympiad was held in three stages: qualifying and semifinal rounds in the format of individual testing, as well as the final creative competition.
According to the results of the first two stages, 14 students made it to the final. As a concluding task, participants were invited to prepare a video presentation in English on the topic “Artificial Intelligence: Shaping the Future,” dedicated to the impact of artificial intelligence on society, economy, and professional activity.
The winners of the olympiad wereAlexander Katsyuba(the third course of the Faculty of Engineering Ecology and Urban Economy (FIEGU)),Anna Taran(first year of the architecture faculty) andViktor Bondarev(second course of PHYSICS).
Second place was taken byAnna Karymova(third year of the architectural faculty),Yaroslav Zvarych(second year of the Faculty of Civil Engineering) andArtyom Abdyuzhanov(second year of FIEIH). Additionally, the jury noted the performances of participants in special nominations: Anna Karymova – for the best pronunciation, Yaroslav Zvarich – for speech literacy, and Artyom Abdyuanov – for professionalism and depth of topic disclosure.
Third place sharedMikhail Galoyan(first year of the Faculty of Economics),Maksim Murdasov(second year of the faculty of construction),Kamil Ametov(first year of the Faculty of Construction) andElizaveta Fyodorova(first course of PHYSICS). The works were noted for their research thoroughness, logical structure, linguistic literacy, and originality of perspective on the declared topic.
The finalists of the Olympiad wereTaisia Andreeva, Maksim Klochko, Svetlana YasinskayaиAleksandra Shevtsova(all – the first year of the architectural faculty), demonstrating a high level of language training.
Winners, prize-winners, and finalists were awarded diplomas, honorary certificates, and commemorative gifts. The head of the Department of Intercultural CommunicationElena Seleznevacongratulated the participants on a successful performance, noting deep knowledge, unconventional thinking, and a striving for professional development.

Essay contest in a foreign language
The results were summed up on May 29intra-university essay competition in EnglishAmong second-year students completing the elective course “Foreign Language of Professional Communication.” Contestants were invited to write an essay on the topic “My Future Profession: Artificial Intelligence vs Humans”.
The works of the participants were distinguished by the originality of ideas, quality argumentation, and a variety of approaches to understanding the role of humans and artificial intelligence in the professional activity of the future.
The first place was takenDarya Karaulova(second course of the architectural faculty) andAnna Lozbineva(second course of FIElDx). Second place awardedAnton Semyonov(second course of PHIYGHS) andAnastasia Vastistova(second course of the architectural faculty). Third place was sharedElizaveta Lovlinskaya(second year of the architectural faculty),Levon Gasparyan(second year of the Faculty of Construction) and Artyom Abdyuanov.
In the special nomination, Viktor Bondarev was noted andSofya Gorbatyenko(Second year of the faculty of forensic expertise and law in construction and transport) – paying attention to the details of professional activity,Ulyana Bogatenkova(second course of the architectural faculty) – for the scientific approach to the disclosure of the topic andMaria Mikova(also the second year of the Faculty of Architecture) – for the original interpretation of the topic. All participants in the competition demonstrated a high level of English proficiency and maturity of professional thinking.
All-Russian conference
Significant successes of SPbGASU students at the all-Russian level. In April, university representatives became winners and prize-winnersXI All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference “My Profession in the 21st Century”organized by the Department of Foreign Languages of the Nizhny Novgorod State Architectural and Construction University.
The conference brought together students from leading specialized universities of the country and became a platform for discussing the prospects of the construction industry, architecture, and engineering specialties in the context of digital transformation. Participants presented reports in English, French, and German dedicated to modern technologies, professional competencies of the future, and innovative solutions in construction and architecture.
Fourth-year student of the Faculty of ArchitectureKatrina Tomakawon first place with a report dedicated to the principles of lighting modern cities to create a comfortable and harmonious urban environment. Moreover, her presentation was noted by the jury in the category “For language literacy.”
Second place was taken byMilana Guseinova(first year of the architecture faculty) with the report “Architect of the Future.” The student’s work was awarded a special nomination “For the relevance of the topic.” In her presentation, she presented a vision of the development of the architect profession under the influence of artificial intelligence, virtual reality technologies, and principles of sustainable design.
Another winner of the conference was Artyom Abdyganov, who took second place and received an award in the nomination “For Language Literacy” for his report on modern technologies in the field of land cadastre.
Success of SPbGASU students in the olympiads, contests, and scientific conferences confirms the high level of language training of the students and the effectiveness of the work of the Department of Intercultural Communication. A modern specialist in the construction industry should not only possess deep professional knowledge but also confidently navigate the international professional environment, master foreign languages, and modern digital technologies. It is precisely this combination of competencies that allows the formation of competitive specialists of the new generation.
