A large-scale leisure season for young townspeople has begun in the capital as part of the project“Summer in Moscow”. From May 30 to September 6, they will be able not only to learn the basics of chess at the three-city playground, but also to attend free training sessions in extreme disciplines — from BMX and skateboarding to rollerblading and scooters — at the Luzhniki Olympic Complex.
Festival “Shalomaty Square”
As part of the “Summer in Moscow” program, the “Chess Lawn” festival will be held, organized by the capital cityDepartment of Sports. He wraps three sites: the square near the Metropol hotel, the Samotechny square, and the Tsaritsyno museum-reserve. The zones for playing operate daily from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. On weekdays, anyone can freely take chess pieces, electronic or mechanical clocks, and play a game with friends or other visitors.
Tournaments are held on the courts for participants of different ages and skill levels: open, doubles (without restrictions on gender and age), and children’s (for boys and girls born between 2010 and 2019). Registration for the qualifying rounds takes place directly at the venue. For open tournaments, it starts at 15:00, and for children’s and doubles — at 11:00. More detailed information — atsite.
Extreme park
Parallel to the Olympic complex “Luzhniki,” an extreme park has opened. The site includes six specialized zones for extreme sports, designed for different levels of training. The training zone is equipped with foam mats and a rubber covering — here you can safely practice amplitude jumps and rotations. The street zone combines sport, street culture, and media. The site is equipped with railings, stairs, curbs, kickers, and other elements of urban architecture. The air zone is intended for daily activities and competitions in scooter and bicycle sports, while the pump track represents a circular route with alternating pits, bumps, and berms for riding a bicycle. The most spectacular area is the “Big Air” sector, where experienced participants can try their skills in the disciplines of scooter, BMX, and mountain biking. For beginners, special shapes with lowered difficulty are provided, allowing them to safely test their abilities.
The extreme park will be open all summer. From Tuesday to Friday, from 11:00 to 21:00, free skating is organized for all visitors. Group training sessions for scooter and BMX riding are held from 14:00 to 16:00 and from 16:00 to 18:00. At the park, you can attend free open training sessions with the participation of the best athletes, as well as competitions, contests, meetings with experts, mini-competitions, and media projects. Guests can rent equipment and use the locker rooms. Access to the territory is only granted after filling out a special questionnaire. More information about the visitation rules can be found atsite.
Participation in all events of the “Shalmatny Square” and visiting the extreme park in “Luzhniki” are free for everyone.
“Summer in Moscow”À is the main event of the season, which has already become a good tradition and an integral part of the life of the capital. The main theme of this year is “Time to be together.” The project unites people of different generations around common values, allowing them to become closer not only with their relatives but also with the whole city during walks, cultural and sports events, charity actions, as well as directly near their home in all districts of the capital.
