In the Saratov region, permission has been obtained for the construction of the second phase of the Park of Space Conquerors named after Y.A. Gagarin. On the territory of the memorial complex near the landing site of the first cosmonaut of the planet, a new museum-exhibition and recreational space will be created on a site with an area of more than 286 thousand square meters. This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.
“We continue to create public spaces that help preserve historical heritage. The result of such work allows generations to unite around a common legacy and opens new opportunities for the development of territories. One example is the Space Conquerors Park in the Saratov region, located near Gagarin Field — the very place where on April 12, 1961, the descent module of the Vostok spacecraft with Yuri Gagarin on board landed. The initiative to create it was taken by the Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Viktorovich Volodin, and President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin supported this idea.”The park has now become an attraction point for residents and tourists. The construction of the second phase will allow expanding its capabilities, broadening the modern infrastructure for recreation, introduction to the history of domestic cosmonautics, and youth enlightenment. Within the second phase, a pavilion “Vostok-1 Station” will be built on the complex territory, as well as a number of thematic objects dedicated to cosmonautics. The space will combine exhibition and recreational zones, educational platforms, and facilities for family recreation,” Marat Husnullin reported.
The Deputy Prime Minister added that the work will be carried out under the control of the Public Procurement Committee ‘Unified Customer in the Construction Sector.’ The park is being developed as a modern public space that will be able to unite cultural, educational, and tourist functions. In the pavilion ‘Vostok-1,’ zones of master classes and exhibits of ‘Roscosmos’ will appear, allowing visitors to learn about astronaut training and engineering technologies. In addition, about 30 thousand square meters of territory will be allocated for comprehensive landscaping and greening.
“At present, preparatory work is being completed on the site. Specialists are finishing soil excavation under the foundation of the pavilion ‘Station Vostok-1’, as well as under the heating network. Work has begun on the installation of concrete preparation, and waterproofing of the structures is being carried out,” noted Karen Oganesyan, General Director of PPC ‘Unified Customer.’
The project also includes the creation of pedestrian infrastructure, outdoor lighting, and a video surveillance system for the safe and comfortable stay of visitors.
The first area of the Park of Space Conquerors was created in 2021 for the 60th anniversary of the first human flight into space. In 2022, the memorial complex received federal status.
