At the Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University of Peter the Great, a meeting took place with a delegation from Qingte Group Co., Ltd (KN), one of the leading Chinese manufacturers of bridge and electric drive technology for commercial transport. The Chinese side was represented by Wensin Liu, a specialist in work with CIS countries from the commercial vehicle bridge department, and Xin Xin, a manager for work with Russia from the special technology department.

Participants of the meeting discussed prospects for joint research in the fields of mechanical engineering, automobile engineering, and new energy technologies. Special attention was given to the creation of highly efficient electric drive bridges adapted to the extreme cold and high latitudes of Russia, as well as the development of electric drive systems for heavy commercial vehicles using new energy sources. Representatives of Polite presented to colleagues the university’s competencies in the fields of systems digital engineering, new materials, electric machines, and artificial intelligence for engineering tasks. As an example, the head of the technological leadership office of SPbPU, Oleg Rozhdestvensky, presented a successful project for the creation of the city electric car “KAMA-1”, developed jointly with the company “KamAZ” in just two years — from a digital prototype to a working model. “First, we digitally create the ideal product — the ideal solution to the partner’s task. And then, during the transition to physical production, we adapt it to the economic and other requirements of the customer,” he noted.

The parties discussed the possibility of opening a joint engineering laboratory at SPbPU, which would allow conducting expertise on Chinese products according to Russian standards, adapting equipment to local conditions, demonstrating it to potential customers, as well as training Russian personnel to support the full life cycle of the technology. The Chinese partners confirmed their interest in localizing their technologies in Russia and stated that they consider Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University as a priority partner among Russian universities.

As a result of the negotiations, a decision was made to form a working group for coordinating interaction, to prepare a memorandum of intent, and to develop a roadmap for creating a joint laboratory, as well as for submitting applications for bilateral grants between Russia and China. The Qingte Group delegation invited representatives of SPbPU to visit their production and laboratory facilities in Shandong Province (city of Qingdao). The road of a thousand li begins with the first step. Today we have taken this step,” noted Sergey Antonov, head of the Department of International Scientific and External Economic Relations.
