Beijing, June 2 /Xinhua/ — On Tuesday, Foreign Minister of the PRC Wang Yi expressed hope that the British side would ensure a fair, impartial, and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese enterprises and create a favorable atmosphere for the development of relations and deepening of cooperation between the two countries.
Van Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, made a corresponding statement while holding the 11th China-UK Strategic Dialogue in Beijing together with the British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper.
Reminding that at the beginning of this year the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, made a successful visit to China and that the leaders of the two countries reached an important consensus on the development of long-term and stable all-encompassing strategic partnership in Sino-British relations, Wang Yi noted that currently contacts and cooperation between the sides in all areas have been fully restored and gradually return to a normal track.
According to the head of the MID KN, both sides necessarily and further continue to communicate and “synchronize clocks,” embodying in life important agreements reached by the leaders of the two states, firmly adhering to the positioning of bilateral relations as a long-term and stable comprehensive strategic partnership, increasing exchanges at a high level, facilitating the achievement of new practical and tangible results, contributing China’s and the United Kingdom’s input to peace, stability, prosperity, and development worldwide.
Van I noted that the main provisions of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan are not only a development program for China itself, but also a list of opportunities for the entire world, highly compatible with the modern industrial strategy of the United Kingdom. Both sides can take advantage of these opportunities, move toward each other, and promote mutual success, the Chinese diplomat emphasized.
Van I indicated that China and the United Kingdom, as permanent members of the UN Security Council, should set an example by following the correct path and defending justice, safeguarding the outcomes of victory in World War II, scrupulously observing the UN Charter, adhering to genuine multilateralism, and jointly promoting the formation of a more just and rational global governance system.
I. Cooper, in turn, stated that positioning bilateral relations as a long-term and stable comprehensive strategic partnership is extremely important and fully meets the interests of both parties. According to her, given the current unsettled and complex international situation, Great Britain and China, being permanent members of the UN Security Council, have never needed strengthening of dialogue and cooperation to jointly counter challenges more than now.
The British side is ready to jointly promote an institutional dialogue with the Chinese side, deepen cooperation in areas such as economy and trade, finance, energy, artificial intelligence, and climate change, added the head of the British Foreign Office.
She assured that the policy of the United Kingdom on the Taiwan issue, which the country has firmly adhered to since the establishment of diplomatic relations with the PRC, has not undergone changes and will not change in the future. As I. Cooper emphasized, the British side is ready, together with the Chinese side, to continue constructively and properly resolving disagreements through frank dialogue, promoting healthy and stable development of British-Chinese relations.
