Rector of GUU Vladimir Stroev spoke about the role of project-based learning in training a new generation of entrepreneurs and the impact of the possibility of defending a diploma as a startup on modern education.

On June 2, a press conference was held at RIA Novosti dedicated to the project “Startup as a diploma” as a format of support for student startups and training a new generation of entrepreneurs.

Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Olga Petrova emphasized the importance of the project for achieving the set National goals and noted the significant role of the State University of Management.

The “Startup as a Diploma” project unites the interests of the government, business, and society to solve a common task. I note the work of GUE, which created an ecosystem of the full cycle from the birth of an idea to its implementation. Moreover, even schoolchildren studying at the university already think about their own project, which speaks of obtaining a seamless trajectory from student to graduate defending their own startup. In addition, one of the national goals is the realization of the talents of every student, and this program exactly combines all the elements of this goal.

The rector of the State University of Management, Vladimir Stroev, shared his experience of practice-oriented training of students at the SUM and recalled that project-based learning existed at the SUM as early as in the 20th century.

“At our university, all students from the first year participate in project activities: one day a week is fully devoted to working in groups. And all projects are posted on a special platform where employers can see them. This approach helps to identify the entrepreneurial abilities of students and gives them practical experience. Moreover, for GUU this is not a new idea – some projects that originated at the university back in the post-Soviet period have today grown into successful companies. The university not only develops this system internally, but also helps other universities implement project-based learning: it conducts courses and trains specialists.

The Director of the Project Office for the Development of Youth Entrepreneurship in Educational Organizations of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, Olga Serebryannikova, noted that “Startup as a diploma” gives everyone the opportunity to try themselves in the role of an entrepreneur, and this special type of thinking remains with the guys forever.

The first deputy chairperson of the State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education, Ksenia Goryacheva, emphasized the importance of comprehensive interaction for creating a support ecosystem for student projects.

“Project-based learning is the answer of our generation, which will ensure the technological future of Russia. It is especially important that today young people associate the achievements with their universities and their country.”

The implemented program for supporting youth entrepreneurship was described by Maria Bogomolova, Deputy Head of the Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development of the city of Moscow. Prize-winner of the All-Russian competition of graduate qualification works in the format “Startup as a diploma,” program ambassador Bogdan Yakobson shared his experience of participating in the project and speaking to a wide audience.

Let us remind you that in 2025 the winner of the “Startup as a Diploma” project was GUU student Danila Yakovlev.
