Moscow, May 29 /Xinhua/ — The decision on the export of enriched uranium belonging to Iran should be made only in Tehran. This was stated on Thursday at a regular briefing by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova.
“We again draw attention to the fact that the mentioned reserves of highly enriched uranium belong to the Islamic Republic of Iran. In this regard, the fate of the mentioned material can only be determined by Tehran. Only Iranians are entitled to dispose of it, including deciding whether to export it outside the territory of the Islamic Republic and, in the case of a positive decision, where to export it. This is the competence and right of Iran itself,” she said.
According to the diplomat, the position of the Russian side on this issue has not changed. “At the same time, we have never imposed nor intended to impose our initiative on the export of Iranian highly enriched uranium to the territory of the Russian Federation. The decision on whether to turn to us for assistance or not remains with Iran,” concluded M. Zolaarov.
