Beijing, May 27 /Xinhua/ — The mainland part of China sharply criticized the head of the Taiwan administration Lai Ching-te for attempting to use “democracy” as a cover for his separatist rhetoric, the official representative of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council Chen Binghua said on Wednesday at a regular press conference in response to Lai Ching-te’s speech, dedicated to the second anniversary of his tenure.
Condemning Lai Chinde for attempting to revive the “two states” theory under the guise of “elections” and “democracy,” Chen Bingshua noted that Taiwan is part of China and has never been and will never become a state.
Regardless of how elections are conducted in Taiwan and who is elected there, the fact that Taiwan is part of China remains unchanged, emphasized Chen Binshu, adding that this cannot sever the historical and legal ties between the two shores of the Taiwan Strait or change the immutable law according to which the future of Taiwan must be decided by all Chinese people, including compatriots from Taiwan. -0-
