Kaliningrad /Russia/, May 26 /Xinhua/ — The jubilee 10th Russian-Chinese Youth Summer Games, which will be held in the Kaliningrad region of Russia from May 25 to 31, will become a bridge of friendship and unite two great sporting powers. This was stated in an interview by the correspondent of Xinhua with the Deputy Chairman of the Government, Minister of Sports of the Kaliningrad region Natalya Ishchenko.

“For us, it is a great honor to host in the westernmost region of our country the jubilee 10th Russian-Chinese Youth Summer Games. It is such a bridge of friendship that will unite our countries. Russia and China are two strong sporting powers,” she said.

The program of the Games includes 12 types of sports, with more than 700 athletes participating in the competitions. As noted by N. Ishchenko, these are the best young athletes from Russia and China. Furthermore, the Games provide an opportunity to introduce Chinese guests to the Russian region. “We would very much like the athletes to truly feel our unique region, to get acquainted with it, fall in love with it, and return here more than once. Therefore, we are preparing a large cultural and tourist program that will introduce all guests to the Kaliningrad region,” added Ms. Xin.

According to her, despite the distance of the Kaliningrad region from the Chinese border, the region is actively developing cooperation with China, including youth exchanges. N. Ishchenko said that Chinese students are studying at the Baltic Federal University, who will participate in the organization of the Games. “They will help us as volunteers, many will work as translators. Sport once again proves that it is a huge unifying force,” she emphasized.

The athlete herself, a five-time Olympic champion and 19-time world champion in synchronized swimming — N. Ischenko — has repeatedly participated in competitions in China and fondly recalls the country. “The first time I was in China was in 2008 at the Olympic Games in Beijing. It was a very beautiful Olympiad. This trip left the strongest impressions because there I won my first Olympic medal,” she shared her memories.

N. Ishchenko also highly appreciated the mastery of Chinese athletes. “In synchronized swimming, our main rivals have always been the Chinese national team. And we have learned a lot from the Chinese team because they were such a strong, serious, beautiful, and professional opponent,” noted the Olympic champion, reminding that it was precisely the Chinese national team that won gold medals at the last Summer Olympic Games in 2024.

N. Ishchenko expressed hope that the 10th Russia-China Youth Games in the Kaliningrad region will be held at the highest level. –0–
