The Urals occupies a special place in the Russian economy, possessing a powerful industrial potential that ensures the country’s defense capability, energy, and economic security. The development of this territory and the improvement of people’s quality of life are among the most important tasks. Within the framework of the federal project “Formation of a Comfortable Urban Environment,” which from 2025 will be part of the national project “Infrastructure for Life,” public spaces in the Ural Federal District are being consistently transformed. This was reported by Deputy Chairman of the Government Marat Khusnullin.

“Throughout the implementation of the federal project ‘Formation of a Comfortable Urban Environment,’ based on the party project of ‘United Russia’ called ‘Urban Environment,’ 80.6 thousand territories have been improved in the country. Despite all the complexities, this work continues. For example, since 2019, almost 5 thousand territories have been improved in the Ural Federal District. The President has set an ambitious goal – to improve the quality of the living environment in key settlements by 30% by 2030. This can only be achieved with active assistance from the residents themselves.Right now, an all-Russian online voting for improvement projects is taking place, which the Ministry of Construction of Russia conducts annually with the support of the “United Russia” party. The Ural Federal District shows high activity, and Sverdlovsk Oblast is currently one of the leaders in the number of people who have voted in the country,” said Marat Khusnullin.

One of the successful projects in the Urals Federal District is “Park of Auto Plant Workers: a new leisure culture” in Miass, Chelyabinsk region. There appeared a central alley, a children’s area, a playground for attractions, a sports zone, slides, and a bike-running ring. A feature of the project is the synchronization with infrastructure renovation: roads, heating networks, and the facade of the apartment building were also updated.

Another bright project is the central square in Langepas (KhMAO). There, trading “chums” were installed, amphitheaters with figures of bears, a wolf, and a fox, the “Varezhka” park with a paved area was arranged, and the “Heart” zone near the registry office. For citizens with limited mobility, a specialized sports ground was equipped.

In Zavodoukovsk, Tyumen Oblast, the improvement of “Uka Square” has been completed. This project won in the All-Russian competition for the best projects in creating a comfortable urban environment. The core is the “Chronicle Circle” with an interactive city history. In the “Gastronomic Square” near the “Kolmakov Center,” zones for public catering and events have been created. The highlight is a square with a musical light fountain, play areas, and small architectural forms.

In Katai, Kurgan region, the project “Kataiskie agaty” was implemented, which won the all-Russian competition. Six zones have been created: a square with a children’s playground, the “Grass Garden”, the central square, the “Stone Garden”, a square with a bookcrossing area, and a pedestrian alley.

“The Ural Federal District is one of the leaders in implementing the federal project ‘Formation of a Comfortable Urban Environment’: since 2019, 72 projects have been implemented here — winners of the All-Russian contest of the best projects for creating a comfortable urban environment, and last year — 16 projects. The integrated design method allows us to simultaneously solve several tasks – urban planning, functional, constructive, technical, economic, and architectural-artistic – so that new spaces are comfortable for everyone – from low-mobility groups of citizens to active youth engaged in street sports and creativity. In addition, landscaping projects have a positive impact on economic development: production is localized, small businesses grow, jobs appear. During the All-Russian competition held in the Ural Federal District, more than 3.4 thousand [projects] were created.”more than 700 new commercial outlets and workplaces have been opened,” reported the Minister of Construction and Housing and Communal Services, Irek Faizullin.
