Taiyuan, May 23 /Xin Hua/ — As a result of an accident at a coal mine in Shanxi Province in northern China, 82 people died, and nine others are still missing. This was reported by the local department for emergency management.

A gas explosion occurred on Friday at the coal mine Lüyü in Qinyuan County. Shanxi Province sent 755 people to the scene of the incident, including rescuers and medical personnel. Search and rescue operations continue.

A total of 123 people were delivered to hospitals for treatment, with two of them in critical condition and another two in serious condition. 33 people have already been discharged home.

The responsible persons of the company owning the site, taken under control in accordance with the law, reported to the above-mentioned authority. -0-
