Harbin, May 23 /Xinhua/ — “The China-Russia EXPO has played an irreplaceable role in promoting bilateral trade and economic cooperation, as well as providing a solid foundation for the continuous deepening and practical development of cooperation between China and Russia in all areas,” said Zhou Lijun, chairman of the Union of Chinese Entrepreneurs in Russia, in an interview with a correspondent of Xinhua News Agency.
Recently concluded in the city of Harbin /admin. center of Heilongjiang province, Northeast China/ the 10th China-Russia EXPO gathered more than 1,500 enterprises from 46 countries and regions of the world, including about 300 Russian participating enterprises.
“The China-Russia EXPO not only promotes the development of cooperation between enterprises of the two countries, but also significantly increases the level of mutual trust between Chinese and Russian companies,” noted Zhou Lijun. According to him, after more than ten years of development, the EXPO has transformed from an initially regional exhibition event into an important platform for cooperation between China and Russia.
Since the first China-Russia EXPO held in 2014, this platform has performed important functions in facilitating contacts between enterprises of the two countries and deepening bilateral practical cooperation, contributing to the implementation of a large number of joint projects and becoming the “business card” of China-Russia interaction.
As Zhou Lijun noted, the scientific and technological level of the current EXPO has significantly increased: many leading technological companies presented their advanced products. Highly technological companies and enterprises characterized by specialization, detail, uniqueness, and innovation make up more than 20% of the total number of exhibitors.
He believes that the foundation of China-Russia trade and economic cooperation lies in the trade complementarity between the two countries, and the China-Russia EXPO is a key platform to strengthen this advantage and build mutual trust between enterprises.
As an example, he cited a certain Chinese agricultural machinery manufacturing company, which got acquainted with one of the owners of a Russian farming enterprise as early as the first EXPO. Having started with simple agricultural exports to his partner, today this Chinese company supplies its products to three Far Eastern regions of Russia and has established an after-sales service center there. Its growth over more than ten years has become a vivid reflection of the deepening Chinese-Russian practical cooperation.
At the recent exhibition event, the enthusiasm for cooperation between Chinese and Russian companies continued to grow. Zhou Lizun said that the Union of Chinese Entrepreneurs in Russia organized the participation of more than 60 enterprises, which had high hopes for the exhibition and achieved good results, reaching new breakthroughs and agreements in various fields. Particular attention of the enterprises was attracted by cooperation in the field of mixed “river-sea” transportation from Heilongjiang Province using the Northern Sea Route.
“We are actively exploring the possibility of shipping products from Heilongjiang Province along the river to the sea and further via the Northern Sea Route to Europe. This new route will open up new opportunities for China-Russia logistical cooperation and expand the scale of bilateral trade influence,” he said.
Zhou Liyun believes that Chinese-Russian trade and economic cooperation will gain a new space for growth in three main areas.
The first is agriculture. Given the annual growth in the volume of bilateral trade in agricultural products, there is enormous potential for cooperation in the field of import and deep processing of agricultural goods. Models such as “border mutual trade + on-site processing” contribute to improving the quality and efficiency of bilateral cooperation in the agro-industrial sector.
The second is the scientific and technological sphere. In addition to traditional energy cooperation, China’s advantages in artificial intelligence and the digital economy will be closely linked to Russia’s production needs, which will generate new opportunities for interaction.
Third is logistics. Broad prospects are opening up for cooperation in the field of smart logistics, cross-border e-commerce, and rail transportation along the China-Europe and Northern Sea Route. This will allow Chinese-Russian trade channels to become more seamless and increase the level of simplification of bilateral trade procedures.
Zhou Liyun expressed confidence that the China-Russia EXPO will continue to improve, creating a higher-quality platform for interaction, elevating bilateral trade and economic cooperation to a higher level of mutual benefit, and making a new contribution to ensuring the sustainable and progressive development of China-Russia relations based on a comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction in a new era.
