Dushanbe, May 21 /Sina/ — Against the backdrop of growing global challenges, cooperation in the field of water resources has become more relevant than ever. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin in a video address, published on Wednesday by the Tajik foreign affairs department and dedicated to the 4th High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”.
According to S. Muslreddin, at the moment, humanity is facing challenges such as floods, droughts, water scarcity, pollution of freshwater systems, and accelerated melting of glaciers due to climate change. At the same time, the demand for water resources from cities, agriculture, industry, and energy continues to grow, while climatic risks are becoming increasingly serious and unpredictable. In these conditions, the diplomat is convinced that it is extremely necessary to strengthen international cooperation in the water sector.
The upcoming conference, which will take place from May 25-28 in Dushanbe, will become an important platform for accelerating progress in achieving UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 6 and activating international cooperation in the field of water resources, the minister emphasized, adding that joint efforts can form a more effective global agenda for the coming years.
