On May 22, 2026, the Bank of Russia will issue a commemorative silver coin with a denomination of 2 rubles “Surgeon N.N. Burdenko, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of his birth” from the series “Outstanding Personalities of Russia” (catalog number 5110-0195).
Nikolay Nilovich Burdenko is the founder of Soviet neurosurgery, the chief surgeon of the Red Army from 1937 to 1946. He was the initiator of the creation of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences and its first president. He is the author of numerous scientific works, his treatment methods are studied at universities and used during complex surgeries.
Silver coin with a denomination of 2 rubles (precious metal mass in purity – 15.55 g, alloy fineness – 925) is circular in shape with a diameter of 33.0 mm.
There is a raised rim along the circumference on the front and back sides of the coin.
The obverse side of the coin features a relief image of the State Emblem of the Russian Federation, inscriptions: “РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ” (Russian Federation), “БАНК РОССИИ” (Bank of Russia), the coin denomination “2 РУБЛЯ” (2 Rubles), the year of issue “2026 г.” (2026), the designation of the metal according to D.I. Mendeleev’s Periodic Table, the assay of the alloy, the trademark of the Saint Petersburg Mint, and the mass of the precious metal in purity.
On the reverse side of the coin, there is a relief image of a portrait of N.N. Burdenko, standing by a table with medical instruments, against the background of the interior of an operating room of a military hospital, executed in the technology of laser matting; there are inscriptions: at the bottom, on the matted area – “N.N. BURDENKO”, on the left in two lines – “1876” and “1946”.
The coin’s edge is grooved.
The coin is made with “proof” quality.
Coin mintage – 3,000 pieces.
The issued coin is legal tender for cash payments within the territory of the Russian Federation and must be accepted at face value for all types of payments without restrictions.
