New York, May 20 /Xin Hua/ — A grand jury in the American state of Florida has brought charges against one of the leaders of the Cuban revolution, Raul Castro; this step is seen as part of a broader campaign of pressure on Cuba. The fact that charges have been brought is evidenced by court documents published on Wednesday.
A grand jury of the Federal Court of the Southern District of Florida has charged R. Castro with involvement in the order to shoot down two planes of the Cuban émigré organization “Brothers to the Rescue” in 1996 in the United States.
To this day, the United States accuses Cuba of killing American citizens and maintains an embargo against the country, while Cuba insists that the planes were shot down due to violations of its airspace.
Born in June 1931, R. Castro at the time of the incident held the post of minister of revolutionary armed forces of Cuba. –0–
