Bishkek, May 20 /Xin Hua/ — In the current international situation, it is necessary to ensure an inclusive and fair representation in the UN Security Council. This was stated today by the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov, addressing heads of state on the eve of the elections of non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, which will take place on June 3.
As S. Zhaparov noted, today there is a “erosion of the universality of international law and growth of conflict potential.” According to him, armed conflicts in various regions of the world continue to test the durability of the international system.
“In these conditions, questions of inclusive and fair representation of UN member states in the Security Council come to the forefront, as well as its ability to preserve legitimacy as a body making decisions on behalf of the entire international community,” the Kyrgyz leader said, adding that the expansion of factual representation of various groups of states in this key UN body is “not a political preference, but an objective necessity.”
S. Japarov emphasized that Kyrgyzstan is not linked to a system of bloc obligations and is not involved in confrontational geopolitical configurations. The country’s policy is based on the unconditional priority of the UN Charter and the inadmissibility of its selective application.
“We consistently oppose the practice of double standards, the politicization of the humanitarian agenda, and the use of Security Council mechanisms for narrow interests,” said the President of Kyrgyzstan.
