Moscow, May 20 /Xinhua/ — Negotiations between CCP Chairman Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing have opened a new historic stage in building relations between the two countries. This was stated on Wednesday by correspondent Xinhua, leading researcher at the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKSA RAS) Tlesh Mamachatov, summing up the results of the Russian leader’s visit to China, which took place on May 19-20.

“This meeting is a milestone in a new historic stage in building relations between our two countries. Considering the current political situation, each meeting is significant,” he noted.

As a result of the negotiations, the parties agreed once again to extend the Treaty on Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship, and Cooperation between the CIS and Russia, the 25th anniversary of which is being celebrated this year. “The extension of this treaty is a logical and expected step in establishing and strengthening relations between our two countries. Long-standing close relations and friendship, geographical proximity make us not just neighbors, but friends ready to help in difficult times and committed to mutual prosperity,” noted the Russian expert.

T. Mamazhatov emphasized that stable trade and economic ties have been established between Russia and China. The volume of bilateral trade for the third consecutive year exceeds the mark of 200 billion dollars. “Each other is beginning to play an increasingly significant role in the economy: Russia with its rich natural resources and China with its advanced technologies and equipment. In the future, we can expect an even deeper integration of the economies of the two countries, with mutual benefits and a fair distribution of incomes,” the expert is confident.

During the visit, an official launch was given to the Cross-Year of China and Russia Education. As T. Mamadalatov noted, this large-scale initiative is aimed at the development of higher, secondary professional, and school education, as well as the strengthening of scientific cooperation. “The program includes language exchanges with large-scale popularization of the Russian language in China and the Chinese language in Russia, as well as professional training. This is the development of various joint international projects, as well as the expansion of academic exchanges, internships, and joint scientific research between universities of both countries,” he explained.

Speaking about the significance of strategic interaction between China and Russia, the interlocutor Sin Yua noted that it is impossible to overestimate the role of these two countries in building a new fair and equal world order. “It is precisely the cooperation between the Russian Federation and China that constitutes the political, economic, and technological core of all international multilateral cooperation platforms, such as the SCO and BRICS. Only through constant collaboration can our countries defend their rights to sovereignty and a fair distribution of economic benefits not only for themselves but also for other developing countries,” he stated.

T. Mamadov added that in the modern world, characterized by political turbulence, the ignition of global conflicts, political provocations, and violations of international law, only the Russian-Chinese partnership represents a model of stability and an example of mutually respectful relations. “Only together can our countries successfully defend their rights to sovereignty and fair treatment by western hegemons.””Russian-Chinese relations provide an example to other countries of how relations can be built between major powers based on fairness, respect, and mutual prosperity, and they propose a model of what a future multipolar world order will look like,” he stated.

A Russian scientist believes that building a multipolar world is impossible without a firm position from Russia in defending sovereignty and national interests in the face of political, economic, and sanction pressure, as well as without four global initiatives put forward by China: Initiatives for global development, Initiatives for global security, Initiatives for global civilization, and Initiatives for global governance.

“It can be said that Russia and China together are at the epicenter of profound transformations of the global governance system. It is they who define the appearance and formation of the future system of international relations, as well as the structure of a multipolar world — a world without the dictatorship of a single political hegemon and built on a more just and rational international order,” concluded T. Mamatov. –0–
