Dushanbe, May 20 /Sina/ — Tajikistan firmly adheres to the principle of one China. This was stated on Wednesday by the Deputy Head of the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, Saidjon Shafizoda.
S. Shafizoda made this statement at a briefing held at the Embassy of China in Tajikistan, dedicated to the results of the visit of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to China.
According to him, Tajikistan supports the principle of one China and supports all efforts by the Chinese side to protect state unity and territorial integrity. This position is reflected in joint statements and other political documents signed by the two countries within the framework of comprehensive strategic cooperation and partnership in a new era between Tajikistan and China, added S. Shafizoda.
The Ambassador of China to Tajikistan, Gao Qingzong, in turn, noted that China’s position on the Taiwan issue is consistent and clear; the Taiwan issue is exclusively an internal affair of China.
He emphasized that the belonging of the continental part of China and Taiwan to one China is a historical reality from ancient times to the present day. This is the genuine status quo in the Taiwan Strait, as well as an important component of the post-war international order, added the Chinese diplomat.
