Moscow, May 20 /Xin Hua/ — The 10th Russian-Chinese Youth Games will give an additional impulse to the development of sports interaction between the two countries. This opinion was expressed in an interview to correspondent Xin Hua by the Russian Minister of Sports, Chairman of the Russian Olympic Committee Mikhail Degtyaryov.
“The Russian-Chinese Summer Youth Games, the tenth edition, which will take place in Kaliningrad, will give a new impetus to the comprehensive development of Russian-Chinese sports cooperation,” he indicated.
The competition program includes 12 sports, among which two are national — sambo / Russian wrestling / and wushu / Chinese martial arts /. “Absolutely all Olympic Games competitions will be shown on satellite television. This has never happened before,” M. Degtyarev said, calling it a “breakthrough in the media sphere.”
The Russian minister highly praised the current level of cooperation between Russia and China in sports, including regular mutual visits and exchanges between athletes and sports specialists of the two countries. “Almost 4,000 athletes from Russia have visited China for training camps and competitions, as well as for student exchanges,” he noted.

Degtyarev recalled that in 2025, an international tournament in artistic gymnastics “Heavenly Grace” took place in Beijing, and in Hegang / Heilongjiang Province, Northeast China, the first International Festival of Eastern Martial Arts “Commonwealth” was held with the participation of athletes from the Khabarovsk Krai of the Russian Federation. In addition, in March 2026, for the first time in six years, matches of the Continental Hockey League regular championship were held in Shanghai, with the participation of teams from China, Russia, and Kazakhstan.
According to the interlocutor of Xinhua, an important direction of bilateral cooperation remains the training of sports personnel. He noted that the Russian-Chinese Association of Sports Universities has been established and is actively working. The P. F. Lesgaft National State University of Physical Education, Sport and Health in St. Petersburg and the Harbin Sports University operate based on a partnership agreement. Another 14 sports universities have expressed interest in cooperating with Chinese partners, among them is the Russian University of Sport.
M. Degtyarev emphasized that an important platform for coordinating joint work remains the subcommittee on cooperation in the field of sports of the Russia-China Commission on Humanitarian Cooperation. The next meeting of the subcommittee is planned to be held during the 10th Russia-China Youth Games in Kaliningrad.
