Beijing, May 20 /Xinhua/ — Chairman of the NPC Xi Jinping and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin jointly met with representatives of the media at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Wednesday.
This was the 25th visit of President Putin to China, which clearly demonstrates the high level and special nature of Chinese-Russian relations, Xi Jinping noted.
Over the past 30 years, Chinese-Russian relations have undergone all kinds of trials and have developed in step with the times. Their positioning has continuously improved and reached the highest level in history — a level of relations encompassing comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction, entering a new era, becoming an example of a new type of relationship between major states.
For many years, both countries have made an important contribution to supporting international impartiality and justice, as well as to facilitating the formation of a new type of international relations, becoming a key constant in the conditions of profound global changes unprecedented for a century.
Xi Jinping called for efforts to strengthen political mutual trust of even higher quality and consolidate mutual strategic support. According to him, both sides should continue to provide each other with firm support on issues affecting core interests and serious concerns, maintain close strategic contacts and communication at all levels, and also unwaveringly strengthen the foundation of political mutual trust between the two countries, Xi Jinping noted.
Si Jinping also noted the necessity of strengthening high-quality mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Russia and jointly promoting the development and revival of both countries. According to him, both sides should deepen the coordination of the 15th five-year plan (2026-2030) of China with the development strategy of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2030, as well as improve the quality of mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields.
It is necessary to promote the rapprochement of the peoples of the two countries, to constantly strengthen the foundation of friendship between the two countries, which is passed down from generation to generation, emphasized Xi Jinping.
The parties should take advantage of the overlapping Years of China and Russia to seize the opportunity for further expansion of bilateral student exchanges and deepening cooperation between higher education institutions and research platforms, he added.
Si Jinping called on China and Russia to carry out higher-quality international coordination and to work together on reforming and improving global governance.
According to him, both countries must oppose any form of one-sided intimidation and actions aimed at attempting to turn back the wheel of history, especially against all provocative attempts to deny the results of victory in World War II, to whitewash and revive fascism and militarism.
V. Putin noted that currently Russian-Chinese relations have reached an unprecedentedly high level, and both countries consistently promote the deepening development of bilateral cooperation based on mutual respect, equal mutual assistance, and mutual support.
Cooperation between the two countries is not directed against any third party and is not subject to the influence of changes in the geopolitical situation, noted V. Putin.
Russia and China will maintain close strategic interaction on the international stage, as well as joint efforts to defend the goals and principles of the UN Charter and protect global security and stability, added V. Putin. -0-
