Urumqi, May 20 /Xin Hua/ — The volume of foreign trade in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR) in northwest China increased by 4.2% year-on-year in the first four months of 2026, reaching 172.71 billion yuan (about 25.3 billion USD), local customs reported.
In particular, Xinjiang’s foreign trade turnover in April reached 62.72 billion yuan, which is 8.7 percent more than that in April last year.
Since the beginning of this year, economic entities in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of the PRC have been demonstrating high activity alongside a stable strengthening of internal drivers, reported the Urumqi Customs. The number of foreign trade enterprises in Xinjiang, which registered data on import-export transactions in January-April, reached 3,065, which is 17.4 percent more than a year earlier.
Among us, the volume of imports and exports in enterprises of the non-state economic sector increased by 4.3%, while enterprises with foreign capital participation jumped by 221.8%.
According to the results of the first four months of this year, the trade turnover of the Eurasian Economic Union with the countries participating in the “Belt and Road” initiative grew by 5.7%, accounting for 87% of the region’s foreign trade turnover structure.
At the same time, Xinjiang has significantly increased trade turnover with ASEAN and Africa. Compared to the same period last year, the indicators grew by 35.1 and 158.4 percent, respectively. -0-
