Almaty, May 20 /Xin Hua/ — A hydrometallurgical plant with a capacity of 5 thousand tons of cathode copper per year was put into operation in the Pavlodar region in the northeast of Kazakhstan, the press service of the local executive body reported on Wednesday.
The enterprise, valued at more than 11 billion tenge (approximately 23.31 million US dollars), is located near the village named after Academician Alkey Margulan on the border of Pavlodar and Karaganda regions. The implementation of the project will ensure the creation of more than 300 jobs.
Cathode copper is considered one of the key metals for energy, industry, infrastructure projects, and high-tech production.
According to the Bureau of National Statistics of the republic, in the first quarter of 2026, the share of Kazakhstan’s exports, focused on refined copper and unprocessed copper alloys, amounted to 7.7 percent.
