Shanxi, May 19 /Xinhua/ — The second meeting of senior officials of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) took place from Monday to Tuesday in Shanxi /East China/.
As stated at the opening ceremony by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PRC Ma Zhaoxu, the Chinese side intends to focus on the main theme of this year’s APEC meetings, “Building the Asia-Pacific Community for Shared Prosperity,” and to use the Shenzhen Declaration of the APEC leaders as a platform for developing a roadmap to achieve the goals of the Asia-Pacific Community.
An informal meeting of the ATES leaders will take place in November 2026 in the city of Shenzhen in southern China.
According to Ma Zhaoxu, in preparing the effective outcome of this meeting, the focus will be on four main areas: trade, connectivity, innovation, and development.
Participants of the second meeting of high-ranking officials of ATEC highly appreciated the progress of cooperation in various fields of activity of the association since the beginning of the year, positively characterized the holding of ATEC events by the Chinese side, and expressed readiness to jointly achieve fruitful results within the framework of the “Year of China” in ATEC.
On the eve of the meeting of senior officials, from May 11 to 17, almost 40 meetings of various committees and working groups of APEC were held, dedicated to issues such as trade and investment, cooperation in the fields of economy and technology, women’s affairs, telecommunications, and food security.
More than 1000 representatives of the APEC economies, the APEC Secretariat, and observers participated in the event. –0–
