Almaty, May 19 /Xin Hua/ — The third peacekeeping contingent of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan is being sent to the Golan Heights to serve as part of the UN Forces for Observation of the Separation. This was reported on Tuesday by the press service of the country’s Ministry of Defense.

The solemn send-off of the peacekeepers took place in Almaty at the base of military unit 61993 of the Air Assault Forces. A total of 139 servicemen are being sent to the deployment site, led by Lieutenant Colonel Ilyas Almatov.

The Ministry of Defense noted that currently more than 150 Kazakh peacekeepers serve in seven UN missions in the Middle East and the African continent as military observers and staff officers, and also carry out tasks as part of a separate national contingent on the Golan Heights.

Kazakhstani peacekeepers are engaged in ensuring the ceasefire regime, patrolling, guarding checkpoints, destroying explosive objects, as well as escorting and evacuating UN personnel. –0–
