Ankara, May 18 /Xinhua/ — Four people were killed and six others were injured as a result of a shooting that occurred on Monday in one of the restaurants in Mersin province in southern Turkey. Local media reported this.
According to the local NTV TV channel, the attack occurred at noon in the Tarsus area when the suspected individual, armed with a pump-action shotgun, opened fire in a restaurant run by two brothers. It is reported that the attacker had previously been involved in a conflict with them.
One of the restaurant owners was declared dead at the scene. Three others injured — an employee of the establishment, a visitor, and a passerby nearby — later died in the hospital despite the doctors’ efforts. According to reports, the dog was next to the restaurant at the time of the shooting and was injured by pellets.
After the report of the attack, medical and police teams were dispatched to the scene. The wounded were transported by ambulance to the nearest hospitals.
The police have started searching for the suspect, whom the NTV channel identified as Metin O. After the attack, he fled the scene.
An investigation of the incident is currently underway.
