Ottawa, May 17 /Xinhua/ — Canada’s public health agency has confirmed the presence of the coronavirus in a passenger of a cruise liner, who is currently in isolation in British Columbia.

The agency reported on Sunday that test samples from British Columbia were sent to the agency’s National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg for confirmatory testing.

According to the agency, on Saturday one person was confirmed positive for the coronavirus. For the second person, who traveled together with him, the test result was negative.

At the moment, no new cases of the disease have been identified. The agency stated that all individuals who have been in contact with infected persons and belong to the high-risk group are self-isolating and will continue to be under close supervision by local health authorities, adding that overall the risk to the population of Canada at this time remains low.

An outbreak of the S-antavirus occurred on board the cruise liner MV Hondius and has already led to the death of three people. The incubation period of the virus usually ranges from one to eight weeks. –0–
