Jerusalem, May 18 /Xin Hua/ — Israel’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) decreased by 3.3 percent annually in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the previous quarter, according to data published by the state’s central statistics bureau on Sunday.

At the same time, in the fourth quarter of 2025, Israel’s economy grew by 2.9 percent and maintained this pace throughout the entire year.

In the first quarter of 2026, business activity decreased by 3.1% year-on-year, which reversed the previous trend of growth by 5.4%, while private consumption fell by 4.7% after a decline of 4.6% in the previous quarter.

The bureau explains the reduction by the influence of the war with Iran, which lasted from February 28 to the ceasefire on April 8.

In the opinion of analysts, the growth rates of GDP were significantly influenced by the mass calls of reservists to the army, as well as the fact that most Israelis stayed at home during the war. –0–
