Moscow, May 18 /Xinhua/ — The upcoming visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to China will confirm previously reached agreements on the development of Russian-Chinese relations and the unity of the two countries’ approaches to the international situation. This opinion was expressed in an interview with correspondent Xinhua by Pavel Troshchinsky, head of the Center for Political Research and Forecasts at the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences /IKSA RAS/.
As reported on Saturday by TASS, at the invitation of the Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, Si Jinping, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin will visit China on a state visit from May 19 to 20.
“I believe and hope that the heads of Russia and China will confirm the previously reached agreements on the development of bilateral relations, once again declare a united front on their vision of the international situation, and will be able with joint efforts to bring peace closer throughout the world,” said P. Troshchinsky.
As the expert noted, the current year is significant for the relations between the two countries. In 2026, China and Russia will mark two important dates: the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Chinese-Russian partnership and strategic cooperation relations, and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation. According to P. Troshchinsky, these events testify to a “high degree of stability and mutual orientation towards long-term cooperation between Russia and China.”
“The main role of this event lies in forming a solid foundation for the ‘building’ of Russian-Chinese relations of friendship and cooperation,” he noted, adding that this foundation not only supports the present but also the future of the relations between the two countries.
The scientist emphasized that he positively assesses the development of Russian-Chinese relations and expects that they will only strengthen.
“Russia and China are united in their view regarding the world order, opposing hegemony, unipolarity, the West’s sanction policy, and the imposition by the USA and its satellite states of their own rules and views on the world. In this, China and we will always be in solidarity, forming a kind of united front in the struggle for historical truth, which the West distorts,” concluded P. Troshchinsky.
