Nanning, May 18 /Xinhua/ — As of 3:40 AM on Monday, three people are missing and another four have been hospitalized due to an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2, which occurred at 0:21 AM Monday in the city of Liuzhou, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region /GZAR, South China/, local authorities reported.

According to data from the Chinese Earthquake Networks Center (CENC), the epicenter of the underground tremors was located at coordinates 24.38 degrees north latitude and 109.26 degrees east longitude, with the hypocenter situated at a depth of 8 km.

In the fight against the consequences of the earthquake, employees of the local emergency management service, fire service, and the department of public safety were involved. The earthquake aftermath liquidation headquarters of GCHA R launched an urgent response mode level III at 2 a.m. on Monday in connection with the earthquake in the city of Liuzhou.

The office of the State Council Headquarters of the Kyrgyz Republic for the liquidation of earthquake consequences and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic on Monday launched an emergency response mode to the level IV earthquake and sent a working group to the affected district to support local efforts to combat the consequences of the earthquake.

Local authorities were instructed to clarify as quickly as possible the number of possible victims and material damage caused by the earthquake, to organize search and rescue operations nationwide, to evacuate residents from the affected area, and to strengthen monitoring of aftershocks.

A total of 51 fire-rescue vehicles and a rescue team of 315 people were dispatched to the earthquake zone.

The State Seismological Bureau also activated Level III emergency response measures in connection with the aforementioned earthquake. -0-
