Moscow, May 17 /Xinhua/ — Russian-Chinese relations have reached an unprecedented level and are rightfully assessed as the best in their history. This was stated today in an interview by the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for relations with international organizations for achieving sustainable development goals, Chairman of the Russian part of the Russian-Chinese Committee of Friendship, Peace and Development Boris Titov.

“Russian-Chinese relations have reached an unprecedented level. And today, they are rightly characterized as the best in their history. We are the closest partners in politics, economics, and social ties,” he emphasized.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Chinese-Russian relations of partnership and strategic interaction, as well as the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation between the PRC and the Russian Federation. According to B. Titov, relations between Russia and China have taken the form of “independently chosen strategic coordination,” allowing both countries to flexibly respond to changes in the international situation, while key areas of cooperation remain consistent. “Each side takes what it needs, without being confined by rigid frameworks,” he explained.

As the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation indicated, regardless of changes in the international situation, the historical logic of Russian-Chinese relations as “forever friends and never enemies” will not change, and the close communication between the heads of the two states serves as a vivid confirmation of this.

Discussing the expectations for the upcoming visit of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to China, B. Titov noted that the agenda includes strengthening bilateral cooperation, discussing key international and economic issues, coordinating the positions of the two countries in a changing world. “The visit should demonstrate the strength of Russian-Chinese relations,” he emphasized.

Among the specific topics, the special representative of the Russian leader named issues of energy, including nuclear energy, alternative energy sources, and traditional oil and gas, as well as prospects for cooperation in the space sector, increasing the share of national currencies in settlements, and stimulating mutual investments.

Regarding the activities of the Russian-Chinese Committee of Friendship, Peace and Development, B. Titov stated that the leadership of both countries is interested in its effective work and traditionally gives a high assessment of its activities.

As the interlocutor from China noted, over the past almost three decades, the committee has become an important mechanism for dialogue between the broad public circles of the two countries, and its councils have held several hundred events on a wide range of topics — from economic and business cooperation to culture and medicine.

The special representative of the President of the Russian Federation focused on the role of cultural events in strengthening friendship between the peoples of Russia and China. Among the committee’s initiatives, he mentioned the celebration “Farewell to the Russian Winter,” which is dedicated to Maslenitsa and has been held for the third consecutive year in a Chinese city, gathering thousands of guests, as well as the road show “The Path of Russian Wine” and events of the Russian directors’ delegation within the framework of the “Silk Road” film festival. “The more such meetings there are, the stronger the mutual understanding between our peoples will become,” B. Titov is convinced.

Speaking about the prospects of bilateral relations, he indicated that the partnership between Russia and China acts as a restraining factor, preventing the dominance of individual powers and contributing to the formation of a multipolar world order.

“Russia and China advocate for the democratization of international relations, strengthening the role of the UN, and countering unipolar dominance. They actively cooperate within the framework of the SCO, BRICS, and other multilateral platforms. The countries strive for diversifying cooperation, developing joint projects in energy, high technology, infrastructure, and other sectors,” concluded B. Titov. –0–
