Vladivostok, May 17 /Xinhua/ — Against the backdrop of the transformation of the global political system, Russian-Chinese relations remain one of the most stable factors of international stability. This was stated yesterday in an interview by correspondent Xinhua with expert of the Far Eastern Federal University Andrei Deryabin.
In the opinion of the expert, the solid character of relations between Moscow and Beijing is due to several reasons at once: an extended common border, a contractual and legal framework established, and the coincidence of strategic interests in ensuring national security, sovereignty, and the construction of a multipolar world order.
“This allows us to build relations based on the principle of ‘non-alignment, non-confrontation, and non-targeting of third parties,’ which ensures stability and flexibility in conditions of global turbulence,” indicated A. Deryabin.
“The development of the situation in the world as a whole largely depends on the state and quality of these relations,” he added.
The expert separately noted the importance of regular communication between the leaders of Russia and China.
“In the age of high technology and replacing the human factor with artificial intelligence in many aspects, personal communication acquires special value and allows avoiding many distortions and errors in the development of strategies,” emphasized A. Deryabin.
In his opinion, a trusting nature of interaction between the leaders of two states has become one of the key factors in strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.
“This is not just protocol communication: it has a confidential character, which allows avoiding excessive doubts when making decisions regarding the implementation of joint large-scale projects — from energy to scientific research and humanitarian exchanges,” the expert noted.
Today, China and Russia attach special importance to coordinating actions on the international stage. Beijing and Moscow actively interact within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, and other multilateral formats.
“The interaction between Russia and China based on the principle of genuine multilateralism, respect for sovereignty, and non-interference in internal affairs is an important stabilizing factor amid growing geopolitical tension,” emphasized the interlocutor of Xinhua.
Speaking about trade and economic cooperation, A. Deryabin noted that, despite some reduction in trade turnover in 2025, already in the first quarter of 2026 bilateral trade once again demonstrated growth.
Among the key achievements in recent years, it has marked the diversification of trade structure, the development of transport infrastructure, the expansion of investment cooperation, and the increase in the share of national currencies in settlements.
“It is expected that in the future the focus will shift from trade cooperation to production integration, joint R&D, and the creation of value chains, especially in the fields of artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and space research,” the expert noted.
A. Deryabin paid special attention to humanitarian cooperation between the two countries. According to him, it is precisely the development of cultural and educational exchanges that forms the long-term foundation of Russian-Chinese relations.
“The holding of cross-thematic years / culture, education, science, tourism / is becoming an effective platform for the success of ‘people’s diplomacy.’ These events help strengthen the understanding of each other’s mentalities, break down perception stereotypes, and form a positive attitude,” noted A. Deryabin.
On the eve of the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to China, an expert expects further strengthening of the strategic interaction between Moscow and Beijing.
“It can be said with confidence that this visit symbolizes continuity and positive dynamics in the development of relations between our countries, emphasizing the priority nature in the foreign policy of both Russia and China,” emphasized A. Deryabin.
