Sydney, May 17 /Xinhua/ — The newly appointed Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands, Matthew Wale, announced that his government will continue to firmly adhere to the One China principle and will make efforts to deepen cooperation with China in various fields. On Saturday, he held a meeting here with the Chinese Ambassador to the Solomon Islands, Cai Weimin.
M. Uey, who was sworn in as prime minister on Friday, thanked China for its many years of support and assistance to his country. Relations with China are among the most important bilateral ties of the Solomon Islands, the politician emphasized.
According to him, the new government is ready to strengthen all-encompassing cooperation with China and elevate bilateral friendly relations and interaction to a new level in order to bring greater benefits to the peoples of the two countries.
Tsai Wei Min, in turn, stated that China is ready to work with the new government of the Solomon Islands to expand practical cooperation in various fields, further deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership based on mutual respect and joint development, and achieve new progress in building a bilateral community with a shared future in a new era.
