Sydney, May 17 /Xinhua/ — The newly appointed Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands, Matthew Wale, announced that his government will continue to firmly adhere to the One China principle and will make efforts to deepen cooperation with China in various fields. On Saturday, he held a meeting here with the Chinese Ambassador to the Solomon Islands, Cai Weimin.

M. Uey, who was sworn in as prime minister on Friday, thanked China for its many years of support and assistance to his country. Relations with China are among the most important bilateral ties of the Solomon Islands, the politician emphasized.
