Bangkok, May 17 /Xin Hua/ — The authorities of Thailand will conduct a thorough investigation into the causes of the collision between a train and a bus in Bangkok and will provide assistance to the victims, announced the Prime Minister of Thailand Anutin Chanvirakul on Saturday evening at the site of the accident.
Around 15:40 local time, a train traveling from Chachengsau province to Bangsai in Bangkok collided with a bus at a railway crossing in the center of Bangkok, resulting in a fire accompanied by sounds of explosions. Several cars and motorcycles were also involved in the accident.
Rescue teams immediately arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire and carry out rescue operations. At this time, the flame has been completely extinguished, and all the injured have been taken to nearby hospitals for medical assistance.
As a result of the accident, eight people died and 32 were injured, according to a statement from the Ministry of Transport of Thailand. All the deceased are bus passengers.
