Beijing, May 16 /Xinhua/ — China and the USA have achieved positive results in a round of trade and economic consultations, the Ministry of Commerce of China reported on Saturday.

Answering questions from media representatives, the official representative of the department designated five directions in which the trade and economic groups of both countries have achieved initial results in a series of recent consultations.

First of all, the parties agreed to continue the implementation of the results of the previous negotiations and developed a positive consensus on the relevant tariff agreements.

Secondly, China and the USA will also create councils on trade and investment to address the concerns of each party in the sphere of trade and investment cooperation. Within the framework of the trade council, the parties will discuss issues such as the reduction of customs duties on certain goods. At the same time, they have, in principle, reached an agreement on the proportional reduction of tariff rates on goods that represent the interests of each party.

In the third, both countries remove non-tariff barriers and problems with market access related to a range of agricultural products, or significant progress has been made in resolving them.

The United States will actively work on addressing longstanding concerns from the Chinese side, including measures regarding the automatic detention at the border of Chinese dairy and fish products, exports grown on bonsai substrates, as well as the recognition of bird flu-free zones in Shandong Province /Eastern China/. China, for its part, will actively promote solutions to address U.S. concerns related to the registration of enterprises producing beef and the export of poultry meat from certain American states to the PRC.

On Thursday, the parties agreed to promote bilateral trade, including agricultural products, through measures such as mutual reduction of customs duties on a range of goods.

In the aviation sector, the countries have reached agreements regarding the procurement by China of aircraft from the USA, as well as guarantees from the American side on the supply of aviation engines and related spare parts to China, and have agreed to continue developing cooperation in the corresponding area.

As the official representative clarified, the parties are still holding consultations on the details related to the results achieved so far.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce added that the trade-economic groups of both countries will work on the earliest possible consolidation of the results of consultations and jointly ensure their implementation in accordance with the consensus of the heads of the two states, in order to provide greater certainty and stability to the further Sino-American trade-economic cooperation and the global economy as a whole.
