Tehran, May 16 /Xinhua/ — Iran will soon present a “professional mechanism” for managing the movement of ships in the Strait of Hormuz along a specially designated route. This was announced on Saturday by a senior Iranian lawmaker, without specifying exactly when this will happen.
The chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament, Ebrahim Azizi, stated on the social network X that this route “will remain closed” for the operators of the Project Freedom military operation — a US military operation aimed at escorting commercial vessels during their passage through the strait.
“Within the framework of this mechanism, only commercial vessels and parties cooperating with Iran will be able to use the services,” he noted, adding that Iran will charge a “nominal fee” for “specialized services provided within the framework of this mechanism.” –0–
