Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University of Peter the Great was visited on a working visit by a delegation from Yaroslavl State Technical University, headed by its rector I. O. Elena Stepanova. Also present from YSTU were the first vice-rector Denis Naumov, vice-rector for educational activities Victoria Golkina, and vice-rector for economic and legal issues Sergey Parfyonov.
On the first day, the YGTU delegation split into three groups and held negotiations on various directions of future cooperation.
The first group met with the chief designer in the scientific and technological development direction of “System Digital Engineering”, the director of the Advanced Engineering School “Digital Engineering” Alexey Borovkov. The guests became acquainted with the university’s competencies in the field of system digital engineering, technologies for developing digital twins, conducting digital tests, as well as building digital (virtual) test stands and test sites. Alexey Borovkov presented the experience of SPbPU in developing advanced digital and production technologies. He dwelled in detail on the provision of technological leadership, as well as the concept of digital certification.
In 2022, SPbPU and YAGTU signed a cooperation agreement aimed at creating conditions for the development of a new type of engineering training, as well as implementing breakthrough research and developments (within the framework of the SPbPU GIS “Digital Engineering”).
The second group met with the director of IMMIT Anatoly Popovich. He conducted a tour for the guests through the past, present, and future of the institute. Special attention was given to development directions within the framework of the “Priority 2030” program. Anatoly Popovich detailed key trends related to working with bio-inspired and functionally graded materials, as well as specific cases demonstrating advanced developments, competencies in the field of materials technologies, and unique equipment available to SPbPU specialists.During the dialogue, issues of implementing “tomorrow’s” technologies and searching for effective financing mechanisms for such projects were raised. The participants of the meeting also discussed regional development programs as a tool to attract additional funds to scientific units and agreed on further cooperation.
The third group met with the Vice-Rector for Educational Activities of SPbPU, Lyudmila Pankova. The colleagues discussed current issues in the development of higher engineering education. Representatives of YAGTU learned about the features of designing educational programs, as well as the secrets of successfully implementing programs with two qualifications.
Guests were especially interested in SPbPU’s experience in training and developing the career trajectories of the faculty. Politicians shared the best practices of motivation and professional growth of scientific and pedagogical staff.
Colleagues from YAGTU visited the “MetaCampus Polytechnic” and acquainted themselves with the experience of SPbPU in implementing remote laboratory work in physics. In addition, the delegation visited the Center for Open Education, where the guests learned about the possibility of administering the educational process in the online environment, features of creating online courses, and technical capabilities for their development. Particular interest was aroused by examples of the application of artificial intelligence for the formation of multifunctional educational modules.Guests highly appreciated the university’s infrastructural and technological solutions, which allow building an effective educational process using modern digital tools.
On the second day of the visit, the YAGTU delegation met with the Rector of SPbPU, Andrey Rudskiy. They discussed the prospects for further cooperation, identified common growth points within which the universities can strengthen each other and move to a new level of partnership. The colleagues plan to officially sign a cooperation agreement between the two universities in the near future. Interaction will be carried out in the development of educational programs, system digital engineering, and the development of infrastructure and material and technical base.
Today’s meeting became an important step in building long-term cooperation between the two engineering universities. We will work together in the field of training new generation engineering personnel. Moreover, we will help each other in attracting a larger number of applicants, developing international cooperation, and training foreign students,” noted the rector of SPbPU Andrey Rudskoy.
Guests from Yaroslavl were also given a tour of the Museum of Political History, and then they visited the Supercomputer Center and the Scientific and Educational Center “Gazprom Neft”.
The visit confirmed a high level of scientific and technological interaction between universities and identified promising directions for further cooperation.
