In the Scientific Research Corpus “Technopolis Politech,” an exhibition of documentary footage created by photo correspondents of “RIA Novosti,” “The First Among Stars” opened. The photographs depict how the dream of space became part of the great history of Russia, its science, culture, and daily life: from Tsiolkovsky and Korolev to Gagarin, Tereshkova, and Leonov, from the first satellites and orbital stations to the ISS, lunar programs, and future projects.
The exhibition also integrates the podcast “First Among the Stars,” launched by Radio Sputnik and ON Media. This is a series of nine videos, each dedicated to a specific stage in the development of domestic astronautics: the first step of the Soviet space exploration program, the training of the first cosmonauts, and the technological breakthrough.
A person fulfilled a dream about flying to the stars thanks to science. Graduates and employees of the Petersburg Polytechnic stood at the origins of space exploration. Without the polytechnics, the development of the rocket and space industry is impossible to imagine. They prepared the first flights into the stratosphere and the legendary launch of Yuri Gagarin, developed control systems for artificial satellites, and created equipment for processing data from orbit.
The names of four representatives of Politechnica are immortalized on the Moon map. These are Ivan Meshchersky, the founder of rocket dynamics; Nikolay Rynin, pioneer of space flight theory; Yuri Kondratyuk, author of the optimal trajectory to the Moon; and Semyon Kosberg, creator of rocket engines. And the famous worldwide exclamation “Poekhali!” was borrowed by the first cosmonaut from test pilot and also Politechnic Mark Gallay.
Divisions of the Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University of Peter the Great are currently developing advanced technologies, materials, and equipment for further exploration of outer space.
Because the Polytechnic University is inextricably linked with the history of national astronautics, the photo exhibition “The First Among the Stars” opened right here. Read all the details about the exhibition in“RIA Novosti”.
