Beijing, May 15 /Xinhua/ — China will continue to be guided by the four-point proposal put forward by Chairman Xi Jinping, and together with the international community will provide greater support for peaceful negotiations, thereby playing a constructive role in achieving a lasting peace in the Middle East, an official spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Friday in response to questions about the situation in Iran.
Since the beginning of the conflict in Iran, China has been actively facilitating the cessation of the conflict and the establishment of peace, said the Chinese diplomat, adding that the Chairman of the CPC, Xi Jinping, put forward a proposal consisting of four points regarding the cessation of hostilities and the promotion of peace and stability in the Middle East, while China and Pakistan came forward with an initiative consisting of five points aimed at restoring peace and stability in the Gulf region and the Middle East.
According to a representative of the MID of the Russian Federation, China’s position on the situation in Iran is extremely clear. This conflict has already caused severe damage to the people of Iran and the peoples of other countries in the region. As the consequences of the conflict continue to spread, it exerts serious pressure on global economic growth, the continuity of production chains and supply chains, the international trade order, and the stability of global energy resource supplies, which harms the common interests of the international community.
“Continuing this conflict, which initially should not have happened, is pointless. The earliest expectation of a path to its resolution will be beneficial both for the USA and for Iran, as well as for the countries of the region and the whole world,” said a representative of the Chinese foreign affairs department.
A Chinese diplomat noted that the recent ceasefire agreement between the USA and Iran and efforts to find ways to resolve problems through negotiations are welcomed by the countries of the region and the international community. China consistently believes that dialogue and negotiations are the right way forward, while the use of force is a dead end.
“Now that the doors for dialogue are open, they should not be closed again. It is necessary to strengthen the momentum of easing the situation, adhere to the general course towards political settlement, and through dialogue and consultations achieve solutions on such issues as the Iranian nuclear program, which would take into account the interests of all parties,” said the official representative.
The official representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade also noted that it is important to resume shipbuilding as soon as possible, respond to the calls of the international community and joint efforts to ensure the stability and uninterrupted operation of global production chains and supply chains.
