“The opening of the renovated Central Moscow Hippodrome will become a powerful impetus for the development of domestic prize horse breeding. It is very important to us that at the renovated Central Moscow Hippodrome the sporting quality of horses will be checked. Among other things, it will become possible to hold international competitions. There has never been a hippodrome of this level in the Russian Federation before. Many competitions are ahead. I think that for horsemen, this will be a great gift. Within the framework of the activities of the large organization ‘Rosippodromy’, we will modernize about 13 hippodromes by 2035.””Well, the benchmark, of course, will be what we have done here together with Moscow,” said Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev.

The Central Moscow Hippodrome was opened in 1834. It is the oldest in Europe and the first hippodrome in the world for hosting harness racing. Today, it is the most important facility for the development of domestic horse breeding.

“The revival of the Moscow Hippodrome is approaching completion. Already this year, our city will have another remarkable attraction that will be interesting not only to horse sports enthusiasts but also to all Muscovites and guests of the capital,” emphasized Sergey Sobyanin.

The complex reconstruction started in 2024. The project, developed by the Moscow government together with the Ministry of Construction, provides for the revival of the Moscow Hippodrome as a unique sports and leisure center.

Within the framework of the reconstruction at the hippodrome, modern infrastructure will appear: new stables, a veterinary block, training tracks, laboratories for comprehensive horse evaluation, and much more. The renovated competition area will meet international standards for holding equestrian competitions. The capacity of the main spectator stand will increase to two thousand people. The totalizator operation will be resumed at the historic site, a historic restaurant will be opened, and a museum will be expanded. The main building and equestrian sculptures recognized as objects of cultural heritage of regional significance will be restored.

Completion of work is scheduled for September of the current year.
