New York, May 13 /Sina/ — The US Senate on Wednesday approved the candidacy of Kevin Warsh for the position of Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System /FRS/.

As a result of the vote, the candidacy of the financier was supported by 54 legislators, opposed by 45. The head of the Federal Reserve System will have to solve complex tasks under conditions of rising inflation and geopolitical instability.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Senate controlled by Republicans held a vote to confirm K. Worsh’s candidacy for a 14-year term on the FRSC Board of Governors. The official swearing-in ceremony for both positions will take place after the final signatures are received from the White House.

K. Uorsh will replace the current head of the regulator, Jerome Powell, whose term expires this Friday. Although J. Powell is leaving the position of chairman, he will remain on the Board of Governors.

The change of leadership at FCS is happening against the backdrop of the regulator battling increasing price pressure.

56-year-old K. Woors is a lawyer and financier. From 2006 to 2011, he was a member of the management board of the Central Bank and during that period played a key role in overcoming the global financial crisis. His return to the board occurs at a time of increased attention to the political independence of the country’s central bank. –0–
