Tashkent, May 14 /Sina UA/ — The Government of Uzbekistan has approved a comprehensive plan for the expansion and modernization of the Tashkent metro system to meet the growing demand for urban transportation. The president’s press service reported this on Wednesday.

According to the plan, by 2030 the daily passenger flow of the capital’s metro will increase to 1.8 million people. The development project provides for an increase in the number of stations to 79, and the total length of the lines will reach 103 kilometers.

Within the proposed measures, the main efforts will be focused on the modernization of the technical base and improving the quality of service on the existing infrastructure. It is expected that train intervals during peak hours will be reduced to 1.5-3 minutes.

A long-term strategy for the development of the metro for 2027-2035 has also been developed. It provides for a twofold expansion of the network and a 2.5-fold increase in the volume of passenger transportation compared to the current figures.

The strategy is aimed at creating an environmentally sustainable, energy-efficient, and safe transport system while simultaneously improving the level of comfort for passengers.

The project also includes the construction of new lines and the modernization of rolling stock by 2030.
