Beijing, May 13 /Xinhua/ — U.S. President Donald Trump is beginning his state visit to China, which is the first such visit by a U.S. president in almost nine years. In connection with this, the two countries have an opportunity to explore the possibilities of building strategic, constructive, and stable Sino-American relations.
Looking at the process in which the relationship between China and the USA, having experienced ups and downs, has reached overall stability, it can be seen that the diplomacy of the heads of state invariably serves as an “anchor” for Sino-American relations, playing an irreplaceable strategic role in maintaining and providing an important strategic guarantee for their improvement and development.
For more than a year, CPC Chairman Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump have maintained close contacts, including numerous telephone conversations and a successful meeting in Busan / Republic of Korea, which determines the direction and course of bilateral relations. After the leaders of the two countries met in Busan in October last year, China-US relations on the whole remain stable and demonstrate positive momentum, which was widely welcomed by both countries and the international community.
As Xi Jinping noted, dialogue is better than confrontation. Both sides must think on a large scale and recognize the long-term benefits of cooperation. Meanwhile, today the world faces many complex challenges. China and the USA can jointly fulfill their obligations as major countries.
This year, both China and the USA have important events on their agendas. China has begun implementing the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030). The USA will celebrate the 250th anniversary of its independence. An informal meeting of APEC economic leaders will take place in China, while the G20 summit will be held in the USA.
The peoples of both countries and the international community expect healthy and stable development of Chinese-American relations, which will bring benefits both to these countries and to the whole world.
Being the largest developing country and the largest developed country in the world, China and the USA, respectively, benefit from cooperation and lose from confrontation. This is a truth proven by time. In today’s unstable international situation, stable China-America relations are more important than ever for ensuring the stability that the world so urgently needs.
Stable, healthy, and sustainable development of Sino-American relations requires joint efforts from both sides based on equality, respect, and mutual benefit, as well as the activation of dialogue and communication, constructive dispute resolution, and expansion of practical cooperation.
Since Chinese-American relations are one of the most important bilateral ties in the world today, the strategic choices of the two countries affect the future global architecture.
There is hope that the upcoming meetings of heads of state will contribute to the confident advancement of the giant ship of Sino-American relations ahead through storms and waves, so that both countries can jointly realize even more important and positive initiatives and ensure even greater stability and certainty for the unstable world.
