Participants of the solemn event at SPBGASU on May 6
Victory Day is one of the most important dates in the history of the Saint Petersburg State Architectural and Construction University. During the Great Patriotic War, the teachers and students of the Leningrad Engineering and Construction Institute, as the university was then called, took up the defense of the Motherland. Some of them went to the front line, others worked in hospitals and medical units, and also served in air defense troops. The specialists who remained in besieged Leningrad supervised the construction of defensive lines, bomb shelters, anti-tank ditches, and the installation sites for anti-aircraft guns and machine guns on rooftops.
On the eve of the holiday, students, teachers, and staff of SPBGASU paid tribute to memory and heroism.
“Victory Dictation”
On April 24, the “Victory Dictation” took place at SPbGASU. This year, the dictation was dedicated to Marshal of the Soviet Union Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov, whose 130th birth anniversary will be celebrated in 2026, as well as to other Soviet military leaders and events of the Great Patriotic War, with anniversary dates falling in 2026. A separate block of test questions concerned heroes of a special military operation.
SPBGASU students tested their knowledge of history and received participant certificates.
“Memory Garden”
On April 27, students, teachers, and staff of SPbGASU held an international ecological-patriotic event “Garden of Memory.” Through joint efforts, 39 cherry tree seedlings were planted. Each tree is a living memorial dedicated to those who defended their homeland during the years of the Great Patriotic War.
“Obelisk”
On May 1, activists of the patriotic club held the event “Obelisk”: they improved a mass grave of Soviet Baltic pilots who died fighting the fascists in the village of Lebyazhye, as well as a mass grave of soldiers who fell in 1941–1945 at the site of the village of Gotobuzh, which was burned down by German occupiers.

On May 3, students of SPBGASU from among the activists of the tourist club “Whisper of the Bonfire” took part in the All-Russian campaign “Paths of Memory” and “Paths First – more than a journey”.
Students made a trip in one day to the city of military glory Kronstadt and to the Baltic Fleet base. They visited the Museum of Naval Glory, the Alley of Heroes of the Russian Fleet, the Wall of Glory at Yakornaya Square, the “Blockade Cradle” memorial, and the “Patriot” park to honor the memory of the city’s defenders who survived the 872-day siege.
“Windows of Victory”
On May 5, SPBGASU joined the all-Russian campaign “Windows of Victory.” On the university windows appeared St. George ribbons, carnations, the eternal flame, and other symbols of Victory.
On May 8 at 21:45, the word “VICTORY” caught fire on the main facade of the dormitory on Fontanka.
Creative teams
On May 6, inside the walls of SPBGASU, it happenedSolemn event dedicated to the 81st anniversary of the Great Victory.
Active participation was taken by the creative teams of the Center for Student Leisure and Creativity “Kirpich.” They prepared a presentation at the Memory Boards, and in the assembly hall performed wartime songs, thematic dances, and showed a play dedicated to Vasily Terkin — a character from the war poem by Alexander Tvardovsky, a soldier of the Great Patriotic War.
Flower laying
On May 6, student activists of SPBGASU under the leadership of a senior lecturer of the Department of Technical Operation of Transport MeansTatyana Meshechkolaid flowers at the ‘Motherland’ monument at the Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery.
On May 8, representatives of SPBGASU laid flowers at the monument to the people’s militia of the Leninsky district near the Baltic station.
Event of the Foreign Students Council
Victory Day was dedicated to one of the meetings of the Russian conversation club of the Foreign Students’ Council at SPbGASU. Instead of the usual games, this time the participants talked about family memory, about a war film and a song, about why this May day is so important.
The warmest moment was the creation of St. George ribbons with their own hands. The guys approached this with great respect: everyone tied the ribbon consciously. Some ribbons were decorated with additional elements, while others preferred the classic version.
At the sites of military glory in Vyborg
On May 6, a trip took place with the active participation of the Faculty of Forensic Expertise and Law in Construction and Transport (FSEPLST) to Vyborg. The route was planned in such a way as to visit not only landmark places such as the picturesque Monrepos Park, the museum-reserve “Vyborg Castle”, around which there are exhibitions dedicated to the history of the city, the Round Tower, the Cathedral of Peter and Paul. The main purpose was to pay tribute in the run-up to Victory Day to all who died defending our Motherland.
After a walk through the historic city center, the students visited the stele “City of Military Glory” at the Vyborg Regiment square – a symbol of respect and memory of the hero. Here, the guys read poems about the Great Patriotic War and sang wartime songs.
In addition, the excursion participants visited the Military Museum of the Karelian Isthmus and viewed its exhibits. The museum is decorated very atmospherically, which creates additional immersion in the era.
The tour guides during the walk were the students themselves, each of whom spoke about a specific landmark. The trip was organized by the curator, associate professor of the Department of JurisprudenceIrina Talyaninaand Deputy Dean of FSEIPST for Educational Work, Associate Professor of the Department of Forensic ExpertiseOksana Karnauzova.
Memory of our ancestor, who defended the Motherland during the Great Patriotic War, is not just pages of history, but a living moral guide passed down from generation to generation.
