Changsha, May 13 /Xin Hua/ — As of 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, 29 people injured as a result of an explosion at a firecracker manufacturing factory in the city of Liuyang, Hunan Province /Central China/ have been discharged from hospitals. This was reported by the Committee on Health Affairs of Hunan Province and the provincial administrative center of the city of Changsha.
Another 31 people injured in the explosion are still receiving treatment in hospitals. The condition of four out of five patients who sustained serious injuries is assessed as non-critical after receiving emergency medical care.
An explosion occurred on May 4 at around 16:43 at the Huasheng enterprise, engaged in the production and demonstration of fireworks, in the county-level city of Luyan, administratively subordinate to the city of Changsha. As of 12:00 on May 8, the incident claimed the lives of 37 people, and one person remains missing.
The health committees of Hunan Province and Changsha City mobilized their emergency response mechanisms in the shortest possible time. Multidisciplinary specialists from intensive care units, burn units, orthopedics, emergency departments, and respiratory departments from several major hospitals in Changsha were immediately sent to Luyan for treatment of the wounded.
According to Yu Bo, a physician from the intensive care unit of the Second Xi’an Hospital at Zhongnan University, who is involved in the treatment of severely injured patients, most of the victims were diagnosed with injuries and bone fractures.
“After comprehensive treatment, most of the injured are currently in the recovery phase,” said Lu Ziyuan, secretary of the leadership party group of the Committee for Health Affairs of the city of Changshou. He added that the team of medical experts implemented a targeted treatment model and, based on differentiated approaches, provided medical assistance to patients in critical, severe, and mild conditions to ensure they receive the best possible care.
