UN, May 13 /Sin Hua/ — Deputy Permanent Representative of the UN Sun Ley on Tuesday called to make efforts for the earliest achievement of political stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina /BIG/.
For some time, the political situation in BiG remained unstable. Constant disputes between various ethnic groups and political parties have seriously affected the internal stability of the country and its economic development, stated the Chinese diplomat.
“It is important to ensure political stability as soon as possible,” he noted before the UN Security Council.
Sun Lei said that this year, there will be general elections in the BIG, which will determine the development trajectory of both the country and the entire Balkan region in the foreseeable future.
China hopes that the country’s two political formations, three ethnic groups, and all political parties will maintain calm and restraint, demonstrate mutual tolerance, and contribute to the creation of a stable and favorable political atmosphere to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of elections, said the Deputy Permanent Representative of the PRC.
In recent years, against the backdrop of political unrest, the BIG has faced serious problems, including slow economic growth, rising inflation, and an outflow of labor. China hopes that all parties will give priority attention to the interests of the entire population, establish interaction in governance, and create favorable conditions for rapid economic development and a safe and happy life for people, the diplomat said.
China also calls for increased international support and assistance to help the country expand investment cooperation in areas that ensure the well-being of the people, thereby promoting the implementation of the sustainable development agenda, he added.
Sun Lei said that China’s position on the Big Issue is consistent and clear. China respects the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Big, as well as the independent choice of its people regarding the country’s future. China continues to be committed to developing friendly relations with all ethnic groups in the Big and supporting its process of ethnic reconciliation, playing a constructive role in maintaining peace and stability in the country and tranquility in the region as a whole, he said. –0–
