Beijing, May 12 /Xinhua/ — The wife of the Chairman of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping, Peng Liyuan, held a meeting on Tuesday in Beijing with the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Khaled Al-Anani.
Pen Lyuán, the Special Envoy of UNESCO on the empowerment of girls and women in education, congratulated H. Al-Anani on his election as UNESCO Director-General and highly appreciated the important role that the organization plays in the development of global women’s education.
The wife of the Chairperson of the CPC informed H. al-Anani about China’s achievements in the development of education for girls and women and expressed readiness to continue fulfilling the duties of a special envoy, strengthening cooperation with UNESCO, and contributing to the continuous progress of women’s education worldwide.
H. al-Anani in turn highly appreciated the outstanding contribution of Pan Yuan to the education of girls and women worldwide during her work as a UNESCO special envoy. Indicating that UNESCO is grateful to China for its invaluable support, the Director-General stated that the organization is ready to continue deepening exchanges and cooperation with China to promote the further development of global women’s education.
