Moscow, May 12 /Xin Hua/ — In the first quarter of 2026, Russia was visited by 28.1 percent more foreign tourists than in the same period of the previous year, the Russian Association of Tour Operators (ATOR) reported on Tuesday.
During this period, foreigners made 293.2 thousand tourist visits to Russia. The increase was mainly due to tourists from China, Turkmenistan, Saudi Arabia, and India. The leader in inbound tourist flow was China; Chinese tourists visited Russia more than 154 thousand times. In the first quarter of last year, this figure was 106.8 thousand visits.
The most active months in terms of the increase in tourist flow to Russia were January and February. In March, the number of tourists decreased due to the crisis in the Middle East, which affected the operations of airlines.
After the launch of the temporary visa-free regime from December 2025, groups from China are arriving in Russia more actively, primarily to the Far East, as well as to Moscow and Saint Petersburg, according to a message from ATO.
