Beijing, May 12 /Xinhua/ — In the first four months of 2026, cargo turnover through the Ganqimaodu CPC in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region /Northern China/ amounted to 18.391 million tons, an increase of 53.4 percent year-on-year. About one-third of the cargo turnover involved 14 customs ports in Inner Mongolia. This was reported on Tuesday by the daily newspaper “Neimenggu Ribao”.

Ganqimaodu is an automobile checkpoint with the largest volume of freight transportation in China, as well as an energy corridor through which China imports coal, copper powder, manganese ore and other raw materials from Mongolia. Through it, China supplies Mongolia with large-sized engineering dump trucks, construction materials, daily necessities and environmentally clean electric energy.

Since the beginning of the current year, the local customs office has been deepening the integrated development of the “intellectual checkpoint” and “intellectual customs,” creating an intelligent and efficient supervision system aimed at increasing the efficiency of customs clearance.

Taking advantage of the favorable opportunities arising from the mutual recognition of the status of authorized economic operators between China and Mongolia /AEO – this is an enterprise recognized by customs authorities as law-abiding and trustworthy/, the local customs takes measures such as prioritizing the release of transport vehicles and reducing the frequency of cargo inspections in order to assist enterprises in reducing costs and improving operational efficiency.

According to the newspaper “Naimenggu Zhibao,” construction is currently in full swing on the second China-Mongolia cross-border railway, which will pass through the border checkpoint of Gants Mod and connect with the Gashuunsoo station in the South Gobi aimag of Mongolia.

Construction of the Ganzimodou – Gashuunsay railway with a total length of 9.91 km began in May 2025. It is expected that after the completion of the project, the freight volume on this railway will reach 30 million tons per year. This will not only connect the Ganzimodou – Vanshuytsuan / Baotou city railway in Inner Mongolia with the Mongolian main railway line, but also serve to further expand the scale of trade in the corresponding spheres of the two countries, as well as strengthen the interconnection of infrastructure and trade-economic relations between the two states.
