Tenerife /Spain/, May 11 /Cina.ua/ — The last group evacuated from the cruise ship MV Hondius, where an outbreak of the SARS virus was detected, will fly to the Netherlands late on Monday. This was stated on the same day by the Spanish Minister of Health, Monica Garcia.
M. Garcia reported that currently there are 54 people on board the vessel, 22 of whom will disembark ashore and fly to the Netherlands. The remaining 32 (all crew members) will head to the Netherlands on the cruise ship itself.
Speaking at a press conference at the port of Granadilla on the Spanish island of Tenerife, the minister noted that the authorities of Spain initially planned two evacuation flights — to Australia and the Netherlands respectively.
Nevertheless, passengers who were originally supposed to board the flight to Australia will be redirected to the Netherlands. As M. Garcia indicated, the reason for the change in plans is unknown.
According to the minister, on Sunday 94 passengers from 19 countries were evacuated from the vessel.
She added that after the MV Hondius departs, the Spanish authorities will carry out disinfection works in the designated port area. –0–
