London, May 11 /Sin Hua/ — 20 British passengers of the cruise liner MV Hondius, on which an antavirus outbreak occurred, were isolated in a hospital in the northwest of England upon their return to the United Kingdom on Sunday.

They landed in Manchester earlier on the same day, after which they were transported by bus to Arrowe Park Hospital on the Wirral Peninsula in Merseyside, where they will be under medical observation for 72 hours.

The leadership of the local National Health Service in a statement said that the group will be “under control for clinical assessment and testing.” If they show no symptoms, they will later be allowed to return home and continue self-isolation for another 42 days.

The British government announced that all passengers and crew members returning from the MV Hondius liner will undergo a total of 45 days in isolation. Work is also underway to track down individuals who may have had contact with confirmed or suspected cases of illness.

These emergency measures were taken in connection with an outbreak of the virus on the cruise liner MV Hondius, as a result of which no fewer than eight confirmed or suspected cases of illness and three deaths were registered.

The British government also sent a group of specialists, including military personnel and medics, to the island of Tristan da Cunha in the southern part of the Atlantic Ocean after one of the citizens of the United Kingdom living on the island was confirmed to have anantavirus.

According to the UK Ministry of Defence, six paratroopers and two military doctors from the 16th Air Assault Brigade landed on the island with the help of parachutes, while supplies of oxygen and medical equipment were simultaneously dropped from the air.

Tristan da Cunha, a volcanic archipelago with a population of 221 people, is considered the most remote inhabited overseas territory of the United Kingdom. The island has no runway, and it is usually possible to reach it only by sea.

The Ministry of Defense announced that medical personnel are being delivered by parachutes for the first time.

The British government claims that the risk to the population remains “very low.” –0–
